Presenters: Adine Stokes, LSW; Director, Wayne Caron Family Caregiving Center; Faten Khoury, MA, LMFT; Clinical Director, Wayne Caron Family Caregiving Center.

Description: Families, persons diagnosed with dementia and professionals often use different concepts, words and ideas to discuss the same experience. Through an analysis of family systems theory, the analyzing the experience of professionals working in our long-term care system, you will learn how to invigorate and engage family caregivers and persons with the illness to join you in the journey of caring for a person with dementia.

Seminar Objectives

• Use specific theories to apply to family systems for further understanding.

• Bring different areas of reference to enhance the approach in dementia care.

• Use specific tools to engage family caregivers and persons with the illness.

• Engage in self-analysis to re-energize participants own practice.

This seminar is most appropriate for the following disciplines:

Social Workers (Nursing home and community based), Activity Staff, Adult Day Staff, Occupational Therapists (OTR & COTA), Physical Therapists (PT & PTA), Speech Therapists, Nursing Home and Assisted Living Facility Administrators and Marriage & Family Therapists.
